My Birthday Mani! Rebecca Likes Cupcakes custom franken!

Hi everyone!

I'm really excited today! It's my birthday and it's Friday! Friday the 13th! I always love when my birthday falls on a Friday, it makes the day so much more interesting haha.

Today I have an awesome franken polish to show you made by the lovely Rebecca at Rebecca Likes Nails. If you haven't checked out her blog yet, you're definitely missing out! I was lucky enough to get a bottle of Rebecca's franken called Rebecca Likes Cupcakes. It is such an awesome shade of lilac, and the glitter colors are perfect with it!

Isn't the cupcake sticker on the bottle so adorable?! I freakin' love this polish so much! This is 2 coats with top coat. And I had no problems with application. The color is slightly off; in real life it has more of a lilac purple tint and isn't as washed out as the pictures make it look.  This is the perfect birthday mani. The glitter reminds me of funfetti cake!          Overall... LOVE this polish!!!

So......thoughts? What do you think of Rebecca Likes Cupcakes?

OPI - Russian Navy Suede and Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe

Hi everyone!

So the other day, I showed you OPI Russian Navy Suede. Yesterday I showed you Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe. I had mentioned that you may want to layer ATU over another polish just to conserve the bottle, because it took me 4 coats to get full opacity. So today I have ATU layered over Russian Navy Suede!

Love it!!!! The shimmer from the Russian Navy Suede popping through the jelly squishy-ness of Across the Universe! Such a great combo!! This is 1 coat of Russian Navy Suede with 1 coat of Across the Universe, and one layer of top coat.

Sooooo...what do you guys think? Do you like these 2 polishes together?

Deborah Lippmann - Across the Universe

Hi everyone!

So a few months ago, Deborah Lippmann had a sale on 3 of her polishes. I didn't own any Lippmanns, but I knew this was my time! One of them that I got was Across the Universe.  Check it out below!

This is a really pretty, dark sheer jelly with green and blue medium and tiny sized glitters suspended throughout. You definitely want to layer this over a similar color, or over black, so you don't waste so much of the bottle trying to get full opacity. The formula was great and I was really impressed! I had no problems getting glitters onto the brush and they applied onto the nail evenly. Overall, I'm very impressed with my first Deborah Lippmann polish!

Soooo....thoughts? What do you think of this polish? Do you own any Deborah Lippmann's?

OPI - Russian Navy Suede

Hi everyone! Today I have a beauty that just came into my possession! My friend, Heather found a bunch of OPI Suedes at her local beauty supply store and I was lucky enough to get 2! One was OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyranees Suede and the other was this one...Russian Navy Suede. The Suede collection was released in Fall of 2009 and featured 6 classic polishes re-released with a suede finish. First I'll show you how RNS looks without topcoat so you can see its finish, then I'll show you how it looks with top coat.

Gorgeous isn't it?! I love that it has so much going on, but it subtle at the same time. Ok, ready to have your mind blown? This is 1 coat.  1 coat, people! And it dried so quick, I'm talking dry to the touch in a minute!

Ready to see more? Check out what it looks like with top coat!

Hello! Stunning! I absolutely love this polish. I have the original Russian Navy Suede which is lovely, but this suede version is definitely the front runner out of the two!

So....thoughts? Do you like Russian Navy Suede with or without top coat?

Barielle - 3 Shades from the Gem Stone Earth Collection

Hi everyone! Today I have 3 out of 5 polishes from Barielle's Gem Stone Earth Collection. These polishes have a very earthy, green feeling about them, and I'm all about cool tones!

 First up, Back to Nature:

This is 2 coats of Back to Nature with top coat.  Barielle describes this as an opaque baby pink.  I would describe it as an opaque pude, pronounced "pewd". Pink+nude= pude lol. And yes, I just made this up because nothing else described this color! I really like this polish. It's not streaky, it's easy to apply, and the formula was just right.

Up next, Green Opal:

This is 2 coats of Green Opal with top coat. Barielle describes this color as metallic olive marble.  I would describe it as AMAZING! This is my favorite polish of the 3. It's borderline green/olive with flashes of gold and I love the way it screams "LOOK AT ME" in the sun!

And last up, Amber Sparkler:

This is 2 coats of Amber Sparkler with top coat. Barielle describes this as metallic bronze with silver swirl. The first picture isn't color accurate, but I wanted to show you the streak lines you get with this polish because it's a frost. If you like frost finishes, then this polish is so for you. It was really opaque with 1 coat, but I put on 2 to help even out the lines.

Overall, these polishes didn't disappoint. The formulas were great and the brushes allowed for even application. My favorite is definitely Green Opal. The green base with the gold flash is so pretty!!

So...thoughts? Do you like any of these polishes? Which is your favorite?

Guest Post - Jackie Clark

Hey all.

Today I have a guest post by Jackie Clark from the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance Blog. Jackie contacted me to see if I was interested in sharing with you guys an article that she wrote on the power of polish and how going for manicures provides much needed relaxation for cancer patients.

Check it out below!

Manicures and Pedicures Help Women Look and Feel Beautiful
By: Jackie Clark

Going through cancer treatments is difficult for every woman's body, but it can be even worse for her mental outlook. Treatments for mesothelioma, melanoma and other cancers are usually physically draining and emotionally exhausting. They can make a woman feel like they are constantly fighting against their own body, which doesn't help them feel beautiful at all. Cancer treatments often alter a woman's appearance, and getting regular manicures and pedicures are a great way for these women to take care of themselves.

Feeling Beautiful

There is nothing flattering about cancer treatment. They are emotionally and physically exhausting and often cause side effects such as sagging skin and hair loss. These side effects often make women feel unattractive. Regular manicures and pedicures help women feel beautiful without having to put in a great deal of time or effort. All they have to do is make an appointment for their pedicure or manicure and arrive at the salon on time. The biggest decision the woman has to make during her time at the salon is choosing which aromatherapy scents she likes best or the color of polish her nails should be painted. Most manicures and pedicures last about two weeks, enough time to enjoy the color and the feeling of having pretty nails.

Connecting with Others

Some women who are undergoing cancer treatments feel like they are alone in their struggle. They often feel disconnected and resent having to allow someone else to take care of them. Going to the salon to be pampered with a pedicure or manicure is a wonderful way for these women to feel connected to their friends and family. Most salons can accommodate groups, so planning a spa day with several family members or girlfriends is a wonderful way for a woman with lung cancer or mesothelioma to connect with the girls in a way that they probably did before they were diagnosed.

Relaxation

Perhaps the most important benefit of a manicure is the feeling of relaxation it brings to the woman who receives it. Most spa manicures take at least an hour and include lotion, massage and aromatherapy as well as nail grooming and polish. There is usually soft classical music playing and dim lighting so that the woman can relax and enjoy being pampered. Some women even fall asleep during their pedicures or manicures because they are so relaxed.

Even if a woman can only afford to get a manicure or pedicure once each month, it is important for them to take the time to take care of their bodies as well as their spirits. Getting a manicure can bring a sense of normalcy back into their lives, even when everything else in their world seems to be upside down.
